My biggest takeaways from last night’s event [on Zoom] hosted by Nanette D Massey; drop the finger pointing at the whole people who ‘aren’t doing the work’ and see where I can do more. And it’s more about ‘being’ the change other white peoples can see. Less about teaching and preaching and booklists. There’s no ‘magic formula’ to ‘getting it right’. In black spaces, ‘Show up, shut up, listen, aim to interact as fellow humans rather than drawing attention to ‘how cool am I for showing up in your black space!’…and I have definitely been that white person who wants every one to know ‘I’m doing the work’ so that I feel better about myself.
